Nov. 19 event to help high schoolers decide on college, career

High school students and their families are invited to an informational event at Bellingham’s Squalicum High School Nov. 19 to help make choices about colleges and careers.

At 5:30 p.m., Tanya Rojas, from Northwest Educational Service District 189, will deliver a keynote presentation titled “Discovering your Passion.”

The keynote will be followed by breakout sessions at 6:05, 6:35 and 7:05 p.m. The breakout sessions will cover a variety of topics of interest to high school students looking to break into a post-school career. Examples of the content during the breakout sessions include:

  • Aerospace manufacturing, apprenticeships
  • Engineering pathways, police explorers, automotive
  • College applications and essays, the ACT and SAT, and information on college finance
  • Visits with representatives of Boeing, Digipen Institute of Technology, Technical and Community Colleges, Service Academies, ROTC, Vivaluxx, WorkSource and more.

Free pizza, courtesy of the Bellingham Public Schools Foundation, will be served at 5 p.m. The event is expected to finish at 7:30.
