Overview

Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing control procedures and practices and assists the QA Manager with research and development.

The Quality Assurance Specialist has attained an SQF Practitioner Certification, has mastered all Quality Control duties and has had extensive experience working with production supervisors to improve and enhance quality and manufacturing practices.

This position is  approximately 70% in an office environment within a production facility and works approximately 30% on the production floor.  This role is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement processes and procedures according to quality and manufacturing management systems.
  • Cross train in QA Manager and QC team responsibilities and provide support and coverage as needed.
  • Support upper management in developing and implementing Quality standards and processes.
  • Audit facilities and maintain internal audit schedules, address non-conformance and submit internal audit related corrective action reports.
  • Plan, assign, and oversee water and compressed air testing on a pre-determined schedule for quality and conformance to specifications and deliverables.
  • Assist operations be tracking, documenting, and reporting quality levels as well as environmental, and health and safety KPIs. Develop and enhance data spreadsheets as needed.
  • Investigate reports of product quality issues and ensure resolution in accordance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements (USA MRLs, SOPs, Global G.A.P., OSHA).
  • Monitor risk-management procedures, and report issues to managers and product developers.
  • Maintain problem logs, document control program, product specifications, pack standard operating procedures (SOPs), co-packer manuals, hold program, pesticide sampling and testing.
  • Provide training and support to quality assurance team members that covers systems, policies, procedures, and core processes.
  • Conduct annual calibrations and validations of scales, checkweighers, metal detectors, x-rays, magnets, refractometers, infrared temperature recorders, and facility temperature recorders.
  • Perform shelf-life studies, facility food defense challenge and assign, assist and perform mock recall schedule.
  • Verify QC staff procedural methods, make changes as needed.
  • Prepare Certificate of Analysis and distribute to customers.
  • Complete customer audits and questionnaires.
  • Assist in product release and product allocations for foreign countries of export.
  • Understand, maintain, and communicate customer product and micro requirements.
  • Preform release of product.  Communicate current holds and disposition of holds effectively and cross-departmentally.
  • Oversee storage, organization, and filing of QA/QC records for retention.
  • Address customer complaints in a timely manner.  Conduct investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions with QC team and other departmental support.

Expected Work Hours:

Full time, Monday through Friday
8:00AM to 4:30PM

Qualifications:

  • Preventive Controls Qualified Individual Certification
  • HACCP Certification
  • SQF Practitioner Certification
  • Commitment to continuous education in the field.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Comfortable with regular and frequent customer contact
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint Acrobat, and Outlook).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
